    Brian’s “Back to Basics” Platform

While most of us have been tightening our belts in these tough economic times, our City Council voted to give itself a 100% pay raise and lifetime health benefits. We do not want to become like the City of Bell. Mission Viejo needs to get “Back to Basics” and focus on the things that make our city a wonderful place to live. My platform is straightforward:

Increase Fiscal Responsibility Promote Public Safety
Champion Better Roads Improve Parks and Trails

A Leader in the Fight to Save Casta Del Sol Golf Course

Brian has served as a City Commissioner since 2007. When a developer came to Mission Viejo and proposed turning the Casta Del Sol golf course into high-density housing, Brian listened to the residents of Mission Viejo who were surprised and appalled at the proposed development. Voicing the concerns of residents across the city, Brian was a leader in the successful fight to save Casta Del Sol golf course.

Today there are no current plans to develop the Casta Del Sol golf course. Sending Brian to City Hall will ensure a strong voice and vote that will protect our master-planned community.

    Improve Fiscal Responsibility

In 2008, the Mission Viejo City Council voted to give itself a 100% pay raise. As a City Council member, Brian will vote to repeal this pay increase in the name of fiscal responsibility.  Brian understands that times are tough and residents are losing their jobs and sadly, their homes.  It’s time for the council to be in touch with what the residents are experiencing.  It’s time to get “Back to Basics.”

    Champion Better Roads

Years ago, Mission Viejo resurfaced its roads one every 5 years. Currently, the roads in Mission Viejo are paved one every 7 years. This was done in the early 90′s, because the deferred maintenance allowed the city council the ability to not dip into city reserves while building the animal shelter. The minimum amount of roadway maintenance that the city is doing is beginning to show up in many Mission Viejo neighborhoods. This deferred maintenance on city roads will continue to get worse unless we change back to the high standard of resurfacing our roads once every five years.

    Promote Public Safety

Promoting Public safety is a high priority. Mission Viejo is known for leading the way in public safety and we need to maintain the high standard of public safety that we have come to expect in Mission Viejo. We need to continue promoting crime prevention programs throughout the city as well as increase police patrols to crime prone areas.

    Improve Parks and Trails

The City of Mission Viejo needs to maintain and improve upon its parks and green space which is one of the many things that makes our city great.  Furthermore, Mission Viejo needs an interconnected trail system. While on the Community Services Commission Brian has been actively working on bringing an interconnected trail system to Mission Viejo. Brian’s proposal will integrate the trail system with the existing Oso Creek Trail System. The first phase would connect the Oso Creek Trail system to the Arroyo Trabuco Corridor, creating a mountain-to-sea trail.

City Commissioner

leader

Brian has served as a Community Services Commissioner since January 2007. He was unanimously elected by his colleagues as Vice-Chair of the Community Services Commission in 2008, and then unanimously elected to Chairman of the Commission in 2009. As a City Commissioner, Brian continues to fight for better parks, trail systems, after-school programs, fitness programs, and improved services for our city's senior citizens. He fights for these objectives while bringing a fiscally responsible approach to the commission. …

Advocate for a Theater at Capo Valley High School

speakingtrustees

As a Board Member for the Capistrano Valley High School Foundation from 2007-2010, Brian worked tirelessly to promote greater opportunities at Capistrano Valley High School and has helped bring attention to the need for a theater at the school. In 2007, Brian chaired the foundation's Red-Carpet event featuring the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" and helped raise $13,000 for the foundation. Numerous city officials and school officials attended the event and saw first-hand the need for a theater at Capo Valley High School. Additionally, in 2008, Brian chaired the foundation's no-limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament and helped raised $5000 for the foundation. On August 24, 2010 Brian spoke in front of the entire CUSD Trustee board to advocate for the construction of Capo Valley's First theater, which is fully funded. The trustee's voted unanimously to build this much-needed theater.  While the vote was a resounding success, Brian continues to fight for theater construction, knowing …

Community Leader

SpeakOutside1

Brian has been deeply involved in his community for years. He was a leader in the fight to save Casta Del Sol golf course from developers seeking to tear it down and replace it with high density housing. Working with fellow concerned residents, development of the golf course is no longer immanent. Additionally, Brian has been involved in the Mission Viejo Activities committee on issues such as college scholarships for Mission Viejo students, and the annual Fourth of July Street Fair. To help raise funds for the Activities Committee, Brian volunteers each year to put himself into a dunk-tank for a good cause. Brian is also a former "Rotarian" and past Board Member of the Mission Viejo Rotary Club. …
